Wooing Lady Luck: It’s All About Never Giving Up, Says Tasca, Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team

SONOMA, Ca., July 26, 2012–Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car team are bringing a fast hot rod to Sonoma. Hopefully a little luck will tag along, too.

After a disappointing first-round finish in Denver, where he narrowly lost on a holeshot to Cruz Pedregon, Tasca is eager to translate the momentum the team has built at nearly every race in qualifying to eliminations on Sunday.

How many ways are there to woo lady luck? Maybe many – maybe none. Tasca’s strategy is to keep stepping up to the plate until rounds start to fall his way.

This second stop of the NHRA Full Throttle Series’ famed Western Swing, a three-races-in-three-weeks tour, offers a greater chance of cooler temperatures that are a welcome change for crew chiefs after battling the heat and altitude of Denver.

While the air may be cooler, though, the points battle is heating up and every team feels the burn. Including Sonoma, only four races remain before the start of the “Countdown to the Championship” playoffs and drivers will snap up spots quickly now.

Just a quick glance at the clinch scenarios shows just how epic the fight for the 2012 championship title will be. Earning a spot in the playoffs is a luxury in such a deep field and with several big names hovering around the bump, including 15-time world champion John Force, every driver knows it.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the car,” Tasca said. “We’re coming off a tough weekend in Denver and the best part of going back-to-back-to-back is getting another shot at it a few days later. There are big swings in the points. When you go into a race in sixth and come out in ninth, you’re disappointed but you can go back up the next weekend.

“The bottom line is the guys made a great call on Sunday (at Bandimere Speedway). We didn’t get the match-up we hoped for. We’ll go to Sonoma with a much more normal set-up. Our Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car is starting to run much better in the heat and we’ve been running great in qualifying, so we’ll have the opportunity to take the pole Friday night. We’ll progress more with our hot-weather tune-up on Saturday. When you have the kind of confidence we do and just keep stepping up to the plate, good things can happen.”
