READING, Penn. (Aug. 14, 2008) – Bob Tasca III enters this weekend’s NHRA race in Reading, on a mission. The 11th-place driver, who sits 79 outside of the top 10, knows that in order to have a chance to run for the championship, he needs a victory.

“Truthfully, we need to win Reading or Indy, that’s what it comes down to,” said Tasca. “I don’t expect [Mike] Neff [10th place] or [Jack] Beckman [ninth place] to DNQ, I don’t expect them to perform poorly; those two cars can run great. My best draw would be to meet Neff in the first round and Beckman in the second round. Those are the types of things that happen. It’s going to be exciting and we’re up to the challenge.“

With eight rounds up for grabs before the final field is set for the championship, every point counts for the rookie driver and his Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang team. One thing in the rookie’s favor, is that for the first time since before the Western Swing, he will visit a track this weekend that he is familiar with.

“I think we can really do well this weekend at Maple Grove; I like the track,” said the rookie. “The first time that I ever went down a race track on a professional level, was the right lane there in my alcohol Funny Car in 2006.”

To kickoff this weekend’s racing festivities, Tasca will participate in the DRAW charity softball game on Thursday night, as a member of Gary Scelzi’s Superchargers team.

“Tonight is the charity softball game for the DRAW charity, which is going to be fun,” said Tasca. “It’s always good to do something for any charitable organization, obviously we have our big JDRF thing coming up in Indy, but this softball game for DRAW will be a lot of fun. It’s great they are getting the fans and the drivers together to raise money for a good cause. It will be a good way of starting the weekend off, and then we go to work. We’ll see where we end up.”

– Tasca will attempt to make his 16th start of the season this weekend in Reading

– Tasca will participate in today’s NHRA Softball game at FirstEngery Stadium at 7 p.m.

The rookie driver is 11th in the championship standings, 79 points outside the top 10.

– Tasca is running a full season and for 2008 Rookie-of-the-Year honors.

Tasca began putting together his nitro Funny Car team in November 2007, for debut at the 2008 Winternationals at Pomona in February.

Bob Tasca III is a 32-year-old rookie in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing nitro Funny Car class. Tasca competed the past three seasons in the Alcohol Funny Car class. Tasca is also a third-generation Ford dealer from Rhode Island.
