Tasca Eyes Weather Report as NHRA Mello Yello Series Heads to Atlanta; Hopes for Two Dry Days of Qualifying

ATLANTA, Ga., May 2, 2013—After losing a full day of qualifying at the last two events, Bob Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team hope for drier weather at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Summernationals in Commerce, Ga., near Atlanta.

Getting more data from the racetrack is key for Tasca, who with crew chief Chris Cunningham and co-crew chief Marc Denner want to really see what changes made one month ago can do.

We’re just getting killed by the rain,” Tasca said. “I’m looking forward to getting qualifying runs in. For our team, we just need runs. Consistency will come from that. We really excited about the changes we’ve made and the energy of our team. You can see on our guys’ faces they believe it’s only a matter of time before we get the next win.”

According to the weather report, there’s a chance for rain nearly all weekend and rapidly changing conditions are always trickier for crew chiefs – and Funny Cars – to adapt to. A chance isn’t a certainty, though, and the team is hopeful they’ll get the chance to gather data.

“All in all, we’re pleased where we’re at,” Tasca said. “We’re still very early in the transition. We’ve hung on to the top 10 in (NHRA Mello Yello championship points) for now and you can move to mid-pack in just one race.”

The ESPN2 qualifying show is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. ET on Saturday (May 4, 2013), with the race from 8-11 p.m. ET Sunday.

 Tasca Racing
Now headquartered near Charlotte in Concord, N.C., Tasca Racing was founded by legendary Ford dealer Bob Tasca Sr. in Rhode Island in 1962, after he realized the incredible potential of “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday” during drag racing’s infancy. At 16 years old, Bob Sr. started his first job at a Ford dealership. He opened his own Ford dealership at 27. Seventy years later Tasca Ford still exists, run by the second and third generations of the Tasca family. Bob Tasca III, grandson of Bob Sr., has led the racing branch of the family since 2008 as driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car. When he’s not involved with his race team, Bob III works at the family dealership. The Tasca family is proud to say more than 50 years after Tasca Racing was founded, the phrase “Win on Sunday Sell on Monday” is alive and well within the Tasca and Ford team.
