dearborn, Mich., June 15, 2014 — The Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car smoked the tires at the 280-foot mark in the first elimination round of the 14th Annual Ford NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway in Bristol, Tenn., losing to fellow Ford driver Tim Wilkerson.
Wilkerson’s first-round run of 4.148 seconds/303.78 mph was tops in the round. Motorcraft/Quick Lane driver Bob Tasca III’s pass was clocked at 4.890/169.55.
“We were up against the guy who ran the low ET of the session,” said Tasca. “Wilkerson had an absolutely unbelievable run so I guess there’s some solitude in that. It’s not the weekend we wanted, again, but we’re not giving up. There’s a lot of season left.”
On Friday, it looked like Tasca’s near-season-long slump might be coming to an end with a 4.192/299.86 run in the first qualifying session. His second qualifying run of 4.143/306.81 was only good for the 13th starting position on a night when Thunder Valley was giving up low numbers, including Del Worsham’s 3.992/319.45.
“We felt pretty good,” Tasca said of his Friday performance. “We got up and down. We tried to get more aggressive Saturday because with only 16 cars in the field, we knew we were qualified.”
The result of that aggression was a pair of day-two runs in which Tasca smoked the tires. The first, 5.992/112.93, put him in the 15th starting position. The second, 5.349/137.33, solidified P15 and punched his ticket for a date with Wilkerson in round one.
“We made some adjustments from the Saturday set up, but it wasn’t enough,” Tasca said.
The next stop for the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series is a home game for Team Tasca at the New England Nationals at New England Dragway in Epping, N.H.

Now headquartered near Charlotte in Concord, N.C., Tasca Racing was founded by Legendary Ford dealer Bob Tasca, Sr., in Rhode Island in 1962, after he realized the incredible potential of “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday” during drag racing’s infancy. At 16 years old, Bob Sr. started his first job at a Ford dealership. He opened his own Ford dealership at 27. Seventy years later, Tasca Ford still exists, run by the second and third generations of the Tasca family. Bob Tasca III, grandson of Bob Sr., has led the racing branch of the family since 2008 as driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car. When he’s not involved with his race team, Bob III works at the family dealership. The Tasca family is proud to say more than 50 years after Tasca Racing was founded, the phrase “Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday” is alive and well within the Tasca team.
