LAS VEGAS (Oct. 31, 2008) – Bob Tasca III put together two solid qualifying runs Friday at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but after ending the day in the No. 14 position, the rookie driver will head into Saturday as one of eight drivers competing for the final four spots still up for grabs for Sunday’s race.

“This sport, I have a new term for it, it’s like trying to find a needle in a haystack,” said Tasca. “The first run out this afternoon, we were the fourth quickest and had the fastest speed, and it was just a fantastic run, and we had a lot of confidence going into our second run.”

Tasca’s first trip to 1,000 feet put the rookie driver in the No. 4 spot, with a 4.134-second, 303.64 mph run. His second run almost mirrored the first at 4.138 seconds and 303.16 mph

“That last run, I was sitting in the car, and I see Chris [Cunningham, crew chief] making these last minute decisions, a small adjustment here and a little tweak to the timing curve, and those are the changes that can make you go from a 4.06 to a 4.13,” said Tasca. “I mean we’re talking about small changes here. It was disappointing, but at the end of the day. I think the conditions that we’re going to see on Sunday will be the conditions that we saw earlier this afternoon. To have that run from earlier in our belt is actually better than where we were in Richmond two weeks ago when we didn’t qualifying.

“We’re No. 14, and I think that those are the conditions that we’ll see tomorrow and I know that Chris will make the right decisions to get this Motorcraft/Quick Lane car in the show.”

Tasca and his team are looking to make their 21st start of the season in Sunday’s NHRA Nationals.
