Tasca, Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team End Up-and-Down Year with Pedalfest

POMONA, Calif., Nov. 10, 2013—Bob Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car team capped off an up-and-down year with a spectacular pedalfest in the second round of the Auto Club NHRA Finals.

Tasca’s opponent Cruz Pedregon smoked the tires first, but soon both cars were struggling down the track. Ultimately Pedregon crossed the finish line first with a 5.207-second lap at 267.43 mph to Tasca’s 5.626 at 242.93. Tasca advanced to the quarterfinals with a win over Courtney Force in the first round, where Tasca drove to a 4.108 at 309.56 to Force’s 4.260 at 256.50.

“It’s not the end of the season we wanted,” Tasca said. “There were a lot of highs and a lot of lows, and that’s just racing. The bottom line is it’s always good to see a season come to an end and give yourself the opportunity to reflect on changes you made and things we need to work on in the off-season. I had some real highlights with that 3.98 and a couple of final rounds (in Denver and Seattle) and semifinals (Pomona 1 and Chicago).

“We just didn’t achieve what we wanted to achieve. We’ve got to dig deep in this off-season and come out swinging in testing in Palm Beach in January, roll out here for the Winternationals and start the 2014 season off on the right foot. That’s ultimately the goal, to come out and win a national championship for Ford and for Motorcraft and Quick Lane. We did a lot of work this season and ultimately hard work will pay off.”

Ford Customer Service Division Launches New Service Parts Warranty; Message to be Featured on Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car in Pomona

POMONA, Calif., Nov. 6, 2013—Ford Customer Service Division announced a new service parts warranty on its Genuine Ford and Motorcraft service parts this week, and the news will be front-and-center on Bob Tasca’s Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Calif.

The new warranty provides unlimited mileage coverage for 24 months from time of purchase or installation.

“Motorcraft is not only a part of my race team, but a big part of my parts business back at the dealership,” said Tasca, who will wrap up his sixth year behind the wheel of his Funny Car at the Auto Club Finals at Pomona.  “From an NHRA fan’s garage to the professional parts installer’s shop, the new Motorcraft warranty is a big win. I can’t wait to get out there and spread the word.”

For more details, visit: http://www.fordparts.com/newspw.aspx.

The 2013 NHRA Mello Yello Series season ends this weekend where it began in Southern California.

Ford’s part warranty provides customers towing reimbursement for repairs completed at any Ford or Lincoln Dealership. The warranty also provides Independent Repair Facilities the ability to complete repairs for customers by securing parts from a dealership or Ford Authorized Distributor. All customers benefit with more options on how they can have their vehicles serviced.

Ford’s previous service parts warranty was 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurred first, and labor was covered if the part was installed by a Ford or Lincoln dealership. Labor was not covered on parts sold over-the-counter to a fleet or installer.

Battle of Synchronized Tire-Smoking Funny Cars Falls in Cruz Pedregon’s Favor

READING, Pa., Oct. 6, 2013—When two Funny Cars smoke their tires side-by-side, the winner is almost always the driver who can coax his or her car to recover first. On Sunday, that was Cruz Pedregon.

Bob Tasca’s Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car smoked its tires the same time Pedregon’s did during Round 1 at Maple Grove Raceway. Pedregon’s hooked back up first and clocked a 4.459-second finish at 224.51 mph to Tasca’s losing 4.803 at 183.37.

“We hate to see a race end this way,” Tasca said. “When the car starts smoking the tires the only thing you can do is do all you can to get it to recover. It just wasn’t our day, but we’ll use these next two weeks to get ready for Las Vegas.”

Race-day coverage begins at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 6 on ESPN2. Two races remain in the 2013 NHRA Mello Yello Series schedule, with the next in Las Vegas October 25-27.

Hopes for Round Wins Go Up in Smoke at Hit of Throttle in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo., Sept. 29, 2013—The Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang team’s hopes for round wins went up in smoke at the hit of the throttle Sunday at Gateway Motorsports Park.

The Funny Car smoked its tires at the starting line in the first round, coasting to an 11.61-second finish at 63.89 mph after qualifying p11 with a 4.094 at 306.40.

“We just never had a handle on the track this weekend,” said Bob Tasca, driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane car. “We struggled in qualifying and never really did get into a rhythm. We’ll pack up and head on to Reading.”

Tasca, Motorcraft/Quick Lane Funny Car Team Ready to Race in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo., Sept. 26, 2013— The NHRA Mello Yello Series heads to St. Louis this weekend for the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway Motorsports Park, the third of four races in a row.

Bob Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car team are primed to continue their role as spoilers in the final four races of the NHRA’s playoffs, the Countdown to the Championship.

The team qualified a solid fifth last year at Gateway, a tricky track to tune for with the possibility of late summer heat and humidity from the nearby Mississippi River.

“Gateway is so unique,” Tasca said. “It’s literally right across the river from downtown St. Louis, which makes it just a different environment to race in. This Motorcraft/Quick Lane team is ready to go. We’ve been beaten up a little bit lately but we continue to have a strong car. We’ll just keep working together as a team and hopefully go rounds on Sunday.”

“I wanted to bring back another one of Wild Bill’s cowboy hats for winning, but it wasn’t meant to be for us this weekend,” Tasca said. “We had this Motorcraft/Quick Lane car tuned up and I knew I’d have to be quick off the line because Cruz Pedregon was in the other lane and he’s been running strong lately.”

Tasca Racing
Now headquartered near Charlotte in Concord, N.C., Tasca Racing was founded by legendary Ford dealer Bob Tasca Sr. in Rhode Island in 1962, after he realized the incredible potential of “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday” during drag racing’s infancy. At 16 years old, Bob Sr. started his first job at a Ford dealership. He opened his own Ford dealership at 27. Seventy years later Tasca Ford still exists, run by the second and third generations of the Tasca family. Bob Tasca III, grandson of Bob Sr., has led the racing branch of the family since 2008 as driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car. When he’s not involved with his race team, Bob III works at the family dealership. The Tasca family is proud to say more than 50 years after Tasca Racing was founded, the phrase “Win on Sunday Sell on Monday” is alive and well within the Tasca team.

Tasca Ready to Trade Suit and Tie for Firesuit at Countdown Kick-off in Charlotte; Plans to Play Role of Spoiler Perfectly with Six Races Remaining

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 12, 2013—Bob Tasca is ready to trade his suit and tie for his Motorcraft/Quick Lane firesuit for this weekend’s start to the NHRA Countdown to the Championship, where he’s ready to play his role of spoiler perfectly.

“It’s time to look forward, not back,” said Tasca, who learned that lesson from NHRA Pro Stock legend Bob Glidden before Tasca was even old enough to race. “That’s something important we talk about a lot on this Motorcraft/Quick Lane team. Racing these days, the points are too close and the teams are all too good to expect to drive over your competition every week. Sometimes things won’t go your way but you have to keep working at it.”

Tasca missed this year’s Mello Yello Series playoffs by just four points in a fight that went down to the last race of the regular season.

“We didn’t expect it to be easy,” said Tasca, a sixth-year pro driver from Hope, R.I. “That’s why you have to do the work every week and get yourself in the best position you can, so you won’t be where we were (in Indianapolis), and we know that. We’ve had a consistent car this year, we just haven’t had much luck on race day. Every week my guys are giving me a car that can win and we’re ready to do that.”

After the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team went straight to Rhode Island for the 16th-annual Tasca Ford Mustang Car Show, an event that draws more than 250 cars and “charges” donations of cans of food for the Rhode Island Food Bank for admission.

Tasca’s Ford Funny Car teammates John Force and Tim Wilkerson also attended to help entertain the crowd.

“I can’t thank John and Tim enough,” Tasca said. “The U.S. Nationals is such a grind and to do something like coming up to the car show right after really shows a commitment to the fans up here. For a lot of them, it’s the first time they’ll see an NHRA Funny Car fire up. After that they’re hooked. Now they can actually go to a race, in Epping (N.H.) next year.”

From there, Tasca went to Dearborn, Mich. for a week of meetings at Ford Motor Company, where he sits on a special committee that reviews new products and gives the company advice on what will sell.

Although serving on the committee is an honor, Tasca’s ready to race.

Coverage from the Carlyle Tools NHRA Nationals airs on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013 from 3:30-5 a.m. ET (qualifying) and 8:30 p.m. ET (eliminations) on ESPN2.
