DEARBORN, Mich., July 30, 2014 – Bob Tasca III, the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car and the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series return to Seattle for this weekend’s NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways, Aug. 1-3.
Last year in Seattle, Tasca made the finals with a 4.077-second/306.33-mph qualifying run and round wins over Tony Pedregon, Cruz Pedregon and Tim Wilkerson before bowing to Matt Hagan in the final run of the day.
“It’s the end of the Western Swing, a grueling stretch of the summer,” Tasca said. “It’s hard on the guys and the parts. It takes its toll. You want to end on a high note, which we did in Denver last year.”
This year, The Motorcraft/Quick Lane team heads to the Pacific Northwest after three weeks of steadily improving down-the-track consistency. In Sonoma, for example, Tasca made qualifying runs of 4.332/285.89, 4.125/309.98, 4.624/190.89 and 4.206/302.01 and scored a first-round round win over Del Worsham (4.130 to 4.151). He dropped the second-round matchup with eventual race winner Courtney Force, 4.276 to 4.666.
In Denver the previous week, the Rhode Islander posted qualifying runs of 4.189/303.84, 4.164/304.39, 4.987/163.4 and 4.173/304.32 before losing to Ron Capps in the first round 4.224 to 4.782.
“The last three races we’ve been much better,” said Tasca. “We made some progress in Sonoma. It was great to finally get the monkey off our back and pick up a round win. We definitely have something to work with going into Seattle. We made full pulls down the track four out of six times in Sonoma and that’s what you need to gather data that you can build on.”
The Motorcraft/Quick Lane Funny Car driver said his team has been fine-tuning the Mustang’s clutch, which is key to transferring power from the engine to the track.
“We have made some very small clutch adjustments that have shown some promise,” he said. “It’s never been a power issue. These Ford Boss engines make big power. You’ve got to be able to keep the balance between the motor and the race track.
“We’ve got all the parts and pieces to go out there and make some noise,” he continued. “We haven’t had dominating runs like some teams but we’re getting more consistent. At the end of the day you need a little luck out there so we’re going to try to take some of the momentum we’ve been building the last three weeks and mix it with some Seattle magic and get a win.”
The action in Seattle gets underway on Friday, Aug. 1, at 3 p.m. local time at Pacific Raceways. Qualifying can be seen live on ESPN3 at 8:30 p.m. EDT and from 10 p.m. to midnight on ESPN2. Eliminations will air live Aug. 3 on ESPN3 at 2 p.m. EDT and from 7-10 p.m. on ESPN2.

Now headquartered near Charlotte in Concord, N.C., Tasca Racing was founded by Legendary Ford dealer Bob Tasca, Sr., in Rhode Island in 1962, after he realized the incredible potential of “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday” during drag racing’s infancy. At 16 years old, Bob Sr. started his first job at a Ford dealership. He opened his own Ford dealership at 27. Seventy years later, Tasca Ford still exists, run by the second and third generations of the Tasca family. Bob Tasca III, grandson of Bob Sr., has led the racing branch of the family since 2008 as driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car. When he’s not involved with his race team, Bob III works at the family dealership. The Tasca family is proud to say more than 50 years after Tasca Racing was founded, the phrase “Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday” is alive and well within the Tasca team.
