New England Racing Hall of Fame to EnshrineBob Tasca, Sr. During Nov. 16 Ceremony

DEARBORN, Mich., November 6, 2014 — Bob Tasca, Sr., patriarch of the Tasca Ford dealership and Team Tasca drag racing family, is being inducted into the New England Auto Racing Hall of Fame on Sunday, Nov. 16 at The Lodge at Maneeley’s Function Hall in South Windsor, Connecticut.

“It’s a great tribute and well-deserved,” said Bob Tasca III, driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car and grandson of Tasca, Sr. “He was all about the New England area. It’s where he built his business and where he started racing. Being honored by the New England Racing Hall of Fame is a great tribute to our family and to him.”

Drivers Deke Astle, Jim Martel, Mike Rowe, Fred Schulz and Ron Wyckoff; racing historian R.A. Silvia and builder/mechanic Dave Tourigny are included in the Hall of Fame’s 16th induction class in addition to the senior Tasca, who died in 2010 at age 83.

Bruce Cohen, executive vice president of the New England Auto Racing Hall of Fame, said, “We are very pleased that the Selection Committee voted to induct Bob Tasca into the NEAR Hall of Fame. His racing and business accomplishments were very considerable. He helped put New England auto racing on the map. The NEAR Hall of Fame has honored the most accomplished people in all racing venues in New England. We are pleased to have Bob Tasca, Sr., join this elite group.

Enshrinement in the NEAR Hall of Fame begins with a nomination. A selection committee narrows the field to 16. The final vote is conducted by members of the selection committee and those previously inducted. According to Cohen, half of those who make the final 16 usually are elected.

Tasca Racing

Now headquartered near Charlotte in Concord, N.C., Tasca Racing was founded by Legendary Ford dealer Bob Tasca, St., in Rhode Island in 1962, after he realized the incredible potential of “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday” during drag racing’s infancy. At 16 years old, Bob Sr. started his first job at a Ford dealership. He opened his own Ford dealership at 27. Seventy years later, Tasca Ford still exists, run by the second and third generations of the Tasca family. Bob Tasca III, grandson of Bob Sr., has led the racing branch of the family since 2008 as driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car. When he’s not involved with his race team, Bob III works at the family dealership. The Tasca family is proud to say more than 50 years after Tasca Racing was founded, the phrase “Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday” is alive and well within the Tasca team.
