Motorcraft/Quick Lane Funny Car Team Shows Consistency Going into Midwest Nationals in St. Louis

DEARBORN, Mich., September 24, 2014 – Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Funny Car team go into St. Louis this weekend for the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway Motorsports Park, Sept. 26-28, exhibiting a level of consistency and confidence not seen since the first two races of the season.

In the opener in Pomona, Tasca made the semi-finals against eventual race winner John Force. In the Gatornationals, he grabbed the provisional pole position on Friday and was knocked out in the second round by another eventual race winner, Robert Hight.

Since then, 2014 has been difficult for the Rhode Island native, who has endured a DNQ, several first-round eliminations and a change of crew chief before picking up the pace in the last two weeks.

“We’ll roll into St. Louis with as much confidence as we’ve had all year,” Tasca said. “I still intend to pick up a win or two before the end of the season. That’s the goal at this point.”

Tasca is confident for good reason. Since the fourth qualifying session in Charlotte earlier this month, he has made seven strong passes without losing traction. Among those runs was a first-round triumph over Cruz Pedregon in the Carolina Nationals and a second-round win over Ron Capps in Charlotte’s round two, which was run in Dallas. Even the first-round loss to Matt Hagan in the Fall Nationals was a very competitive side-by-side drag race.

“Making the semi-finals was great,” Tasca said. “Obviously we came up a little short against Hagan, but it was a tight, tight race.”

The Motorcraft/Quick Lane team is encouraged by its recent set ups, which allowed the car to maintain its footing for the full 1,000 feet, in varying conditions and different tracks. Less usable data can be extracted from a car that smokes the tires during a run.

“Charlotte was a cool track and Dallas was a hot track so it was nice to see that we made the right adjustments,” Tasca said. “The car went down the race track on every run (in Dallas) and I haven’t been able to say that in a long time. We made a lot of full pulls, which is great. We got a lot of data.”

The action gets underway at Gateway Motorsports Park on Friday, Sept. 26, at 3:30 p.m. local time. Qualifying can be seen live Sept. 26 on ESPN3 at 6:15 p.m. EDT, and early Sunday morning, Sept. 28 from 3:30-5 a.m. on ESPN2 and again from 3-4 p.m.  Eliminations can be seen live Sept. 28 at noon on ESPN3 and from 4-7 p.m. EDT on ESPN2.

Tasca Racing

Now headquartered near Charlotte in Concord, N.C., Tasca Racing was founded by Legendary Ford dealer Bob Tasca, Sr., in Rhode Island in 1962, after he realized the incredible potential of “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday” during drag racing’s infancy. At 16 years old, Bob Sr. started his first job at a Ford dealership. He opened his own Ford dealership at 27. Seventy years later, Tasca Ford still exists, run by the second and third generations of the Tasca family. Bob Tasca III, grandson of Bob Sr., has led the racing branch of the family since 2008 as driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car. When he’s not involved with his race team, Bob III works at the family dealership. The Tasca family is proud to say more than 50 years after Tasca Racing was founded, the phrase “Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday” is alive and well within the Tasca team.
