Motorcraft/Quick Lane Funny Car Team Hungry for Victory at Sonoma Raceway

DEARBORN, Mich., July 23, 2014 – The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series heads to Sonoma, Calif., this weekend for the 27th Annual NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car team is hungry for victory.

With one round win since Gainesville, owner/driver Bob Tasca III knows he needs to post race wins, not just round wins, to keep his chances alive for the Countdown to the Championship.

“If we have any chance to run for the championship we’ve got to run the table with a couple of wins in a row,” said Tasca. “We’re capable of doing it and there’s no better place than Sonoma to pick up that first win.”

Tasca, as he has been throughout what he calls the most challenging stretch of his drag racing career, is confident that he has the car and the team to get into victory lane.

“The bottom line is we have all the parts and pieces,” he said. “We’ve got the people. We just need to put it together and that’s something we have not been able to do to this point.”

The Motorcraft/Quick Lane Funny Car pilot points to his car’s consistency in recent races as proof of progress.

“The car is going up and down the track more consistently now,” he said. “We just need it to go quicker and faster without smoking the tires.”

Tasca said the return to sea level after a weekend a mile high in Denver should make life easier for all NHRA teams.

“It’s completely different from Denver,” Tasca said of Sonoma. “We’re looking forward to getting back to sea level in conditions that we’re more accustomed to. It’s a nice track, a good place to race.”

The action in Sonoma gets underway on Friday, July 25, at 5 p.m. local time at Sonoma at Raceway. Qualifying can be seen July 25 on ESPN3 at 9:15 EDT and on July 26 from 7-8 p.m. EDT on ESPN. Eliminations will air live July 27 on ESPN3 at 2 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to midnight on ESPN2.

 Tasca Racing

Now headquartered near Charlotte in Concord, N.C., Tasca Racing was founded by Legendary Ford dealer Bob Tasca, Sr., in Rhode Island in 1962, after he realized the incredible potential of “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday” during drag racing’s infancy. At 16 years old, Bob Sr. started his first job at a Ford dealership. He opened his own Ford dealership at 27. Seventy years later, Tasca Ford still exists, run by the second and third generations of the Tasca family. Bob Tasca III, grandson of Bob Sr., has led the racing branch of the family since 2008 as driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car. When he’s not involved with his race team, Bob III works at the family dealership. The Tasca family is proud to say more than 50 years after Tasca Racing was founded, the phrase “Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday” is alive and well within the Tasca team.
