Each Labor Day weekend, NHRA racers and fans descend on Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis for the biggest, oldest, richest, and most prestigious drag race in the world. They say that no career is truly complete without a win at drag racing’s grandest event. The fabled strip is regarded by many as one of the smoothest on the circuit, and the stakes are indeed high. This event is the final race of the regular season and sets the 10-driver fields for the upcoming six-race Countdown playoffs.
2011 recap: Antron Brown’s Top Fuel victory made him the first racer to win the Big Go in a fuel dragster and aboard a Pro Stock Motorcycle, and Pro Stock champ Greg Anderson became just the 11th driver in Mac Tools U.S. Nationals history to win the prestigious event six times. Mike Neff in Funny Car and Hector Arana Jr. in Pro Stock Motorcycle collected their first Indy wins in a pair of final rounds guaranteed to produce a first-time U.S. Nationals champ.
How to Get There: The track is one mile west of Clermont on Highway 136. From Indianapolis, take Interstate 465 to Highway 136 (Crawfordsville Road). Go west toward and through Clermont. The main entrance is on the south side of the road, one mile past Clermont.
