GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 16, 2008) – Excited to make his second Funny Car start of the season, Bob Tasca III ended up making an early exit from Sunday’s Gatornationals after falling to Jim Head in the first round of competition.

“We just overpowered the track,” said Tasca. “The left lane wasn’t the choice lane, and a few other cars also smoked the tires in the left lane. The conditions were very different today compared to our last run yesterday, and that obviously gave us a totally different race track to work with.”

The driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang lost traction right at the start, but was able to recover the car and move it back into the groove. Unfortunately, it was too late as Head put together a smooth run to get the win.

“At the end of the day, we went out and pedaled the car. I did everything that I could do to recover it. It’s tough, because you know that you’re not on a good run, but you know you need to get to the finish line. You just have to do whatever you can to keep it straight and pedal the car, and that’s what I did. I did get it to recover, but by the time that happened, it was too late. Jim [Head] had just a solid run; a 4.90 run is just really good under those conditions.

“But that’s racing. We made some good runs here this weekend and we’ll carry that into Houston. This is a never give up program and a never give up team. If this deal was easy then everybody would be doing it.”

The NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series travels to Houston Raceway Park for the 21st annual O’Reilly Spring Nationals March 28-30 for the fourth race of the season.
