Week of Sharing Memories Ends in First-Round Loss for Tasca, Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. June 3, 2012–Bob Tasca III couldn’t keep track of how many fans stopped by the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing pit at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park this weekend, but he’s thankful for each and every one of them.

Fans and family members packed close to the haulers for a glimpse of the Mystery 4 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang clad in a special paint scheme reminiscent of the “Mystery” Series Fords Bob Tasca Sr., Bob III’s grandfather, campaigned in the 1960s. Members of the crew from the early days were there, along with fans who stopped to tell stories of how they started following the Tasca family’s racing efforts years ago.

Unfortunately, the week of memories ended early on Sunday with a first-round loss to “One Ford” teammate Mike Neff, who cruised to a certain win when the Mystery 4 Mustang smoked the tires early. Neff, who clocked a 4.108-second pass at 309.27 mph to Bob III’s 6.125 at 109.47, later lost in Round 2.

Tasca qualified 10th with a 4.065 at 305.22.

“This certainly wasn’t the plan I had in store for this Mystery 4 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car, but that’s drag racing,” Bob III said. “We came out Friday with ultimate conditions and made a great run with that 4.06. We put a cylinder out at just about half-track and still ran a 4.06, but they were passing out 4.06’s like candy in that Friday night session. We were eyeing our teammate Mike Neff Saturday hoping something would change. Conditions got better, but unfortunately we weren’t able to run quicker than that .06.

“When you go up against one of your teammates, a fellow Ford driver, you know you have to put a big number up on the board first round, because Mike Neff, he doesn’t small-ball it. We had this Motorcraft/Quick Lane Mustang set on kill, but it just didn’t stick. We had too much power when the clutch started to apply and we just smoked the tires.

“I just want to thank everyone who really supported the car and left all of the wonderful comments I read and stories I heard about my grandfather and all of the people he touched throughout his life. It was really special.”
