Tasca Says Team Turned Corner with Strong, Consistent Runs in Topeka

DEARBORN, Mich., May 28, 2014 – The Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car team went into last weekend’s race in Topeka seeking a set up that would get them from point A to point B. Having found that, Bob Tasca III and crew will be looking for some momentum going to the NHRA Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway in Englishtown, NJ, May 29-June 1.

In Topeka, Tasca reeled off runs of 4.157 seconds/303.50 mph in the second qualifying session, 4.147/307.23 in defeating John Force in the first elimination round and 4.172/303.91 in a close round-two loss to Ron Capps. Another potentially solid qualifying run was interrupted by a blown engine at the 400-foot mark, likely due to a faulty piston ring.

“The car is driving much more smoothly now,” said Tasca who added that his team has really been focusing on the Mustang Funny Car’s clutch. “In Topeka, I had some of the smoothest runs I’ve had all year.”

Team Tasca hopes it will carry some momentum into this weekend’s race in Englishtown, where the Rhode Island he was victorious over Matt Hagan in 2010. He also won there in a Top Alcohol Funny Car in 2007.

“We’re going to a place that’s as home to me as any race on the circuit except Epping,” Tasca said. “I’m as excited to race this weekend as I have been all year. I really think that our team turned the corner in Topeka. We’ve been working really hard, nit picking every detail on the car to find the little things that can improve our consistency. We did find some issues and we’ve made some adjustments.”

The action in Englishtown gets underway on Friday, May 29, at 4:45 p.m. ET at Old Bridge Township Raceway. Qualifying can be seen May 31 on ESPN2 from 4:30-6 p.m. ET. Eliminations will air June 1 on ESPN2 from 4-7 p.m.

Tasca Racing

Now headquartered near Charlotte in Concord, N.C., Tasca Racing was founded by Legendary Ford dealer Bob Tasca, Sr., in Rhode Island in 1962, after he realized the incredible potential of “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday” during drag racing’s infancy. At 16 years old, Bob Sr. started his first job at a Ford dealership. He opened his own Ford dealership at 27. Seventy years later, Tasca Ford still exists, run by the second and third generations of the Tasca family. Bob Tasca III, grandson of Bob Sr., has led the racing branch of the family since 2008 as driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car. When he’s not involved with his race team, Bob III works at the family dealership. The Tasca family is proud to say more than 50 years after Tasca Racing was founded, the phrase “Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday” is alive and well within the Tasca team.
