Tasca Returns to Gainesville, Scene of His First Nitro Funny Car Victory

DEARBORN, Mich., March 12, 2014 — Bob Tasca III returns to the scene of his first nitro Funny Car victory this weekend (March 13-16) at the 45th annual NHRA Gatornationals at Auto Plus Raceway in Gainesville, Fla.

In 2009, his second season in the elite Funny Car class, Tasca dispatched Tony Pedregon in the final elimination at Gainesville, 4.200 seconds to 4.536 for his first trip to victory lane. He reached the finals there again in 2010 and lost to Tim Wilkerson in the last race of the day.

Two years earlier, Tasca etched his name in the annals of Top Alcohol Funny Car history, setting the track record for the quickest pass at 5.451.

“I love racing at Gainesville,” said Tasca. “My first win, I’ve been to the finals twice there and it was the first place I drove an alcohol Funny Car. It’s one of our major events of the year and a place that has been very good to me over the years.”

Two races into the 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Series season, Tasca is in 7th place on the points list with 124. Fellow Ford Mustang driver John Force leads with 225 points.

So far, the driver of the Motorcraft-Quick Lane Ford Mustang is 3-2 in eliminations, posting two wins over Ron Capps and one win over Cruz Pedregon. Both of his defeats came at the hands of points leader Force.

Nitro Funny Car action gets underway in Gainesville at 12:45 p.m. ET on Friday, March 14.

Tasca Racing

Now headquartered near Charlotte in Concord, N.C., Tasca Racing was founded by Legendary Ford dealer Bob Tasca, St., in Rhode Island in 1962, after he realized the incredible potential of “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday” during drag racing’s infancy. At 16 years old, Bob Sr. started his first job at a Ford dealership. He opened his own Ford dealership at 27. Seventy years later, Tasca Ford still exists, run by the second and third generations of the Tasca family. Bob Tasca III, grandson of Bob Sr., has led the racing branch of the family since 2008 as driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car. When he’s not involved with his race team, Bob III works at the family dealership. The Tasca family is proud to say more than 50 years after Tasca Racing was founded, the phrase “Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday” is alive and well within the Tasca team.
