Tasca Reaches Semi-Finals of Charlotte Race in Dallas

DALLAS, Tex., September 20, 2014 – Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car made it all the way to the semi-finals of the NHRA Carolina Nationals conducted here in Dallas due to an accident and rain last weekend at zMAX Dragway in Charlotte.

Tasca’s week-delayed Carolina elimination run was cut short in the Lone Star State by fellow Mustang Funny Car driver John Force, 4.271 seconds/293.79 mph to 4.33/262.69. Force lost to Matt Hagan in the final round.

“We had a great shot against John,” Tasca said. “It was a good race. John just had a little bit better race car. They made a great call. We had an opportunity and certainly we were in the game, but it’s disappointing to get that far and not go to the final round.”

Had Tasca been victorious over the defending Funny Car champion, he would have faced Hagen in the final. Tasca beat Hagan in the final for his last win here in 2012. Ironically, Tasca will face Hagan in the first round of the regularly scheduled Fall Nationals tomorrow at the Texas Motorplex.

Tasca won his first-round Carolina match-up with Cruz Pedregon in convincing fashion, 4.083 second/311.27 mph to 5.723/121.89, before V Gaines crashed his Pro Stock car causing a delay. That was followed by rain prompting the decision to finish that race in Dallas.

Earlier today, Tasca beat Ron Capps, 4.366/252.66 to 4.530/224.85 in second round setting up the semi-final match u with Force.

“We’ve got a car that’s gone down the track every single time this weekend,” Tasca said. “We’re certainly very optimistic about that. We need to buckle down tomorrow and be in the thick of things tomorrow.”

The NHRA Fall Nationals eliminations from Dallas can be seen live Sunday at noon on ESPN3 and from 8:30-11:30 p.m. EDT on ESPN2.

Tasca Racing

Now headquartered near Charlotte in Concord, N.C., Tasca Racing was founded by Legendary Ford dealer Bob Tasca, Sr., in Rhode Island in 1962, after he realized the incredible potential of “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday” during drag racing’s infancy. At 16 years old, Bob Sr. started his first job at a Ford dealership. He opened his own Ford dealership at 27. Seventy years later, Tasca Ford still exists, run by the second and third generations of the Tasca family. Bob Tasca III, grandson of Bob Sr., has led the racing branch of the family since 2008 as driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car. When he’s not involved with his race team, Bob III works at the family dealership. The Tasca family is proud to say more than 50 years after Tasca Racing was founded, the phrase “Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday” is alive and well within the Tasca team.
