SEATTLE, Aug. 4, 2013—Bob Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team runnered up at two of the three races of the famed NHRA Western Swing, including Sunday’s race in Seattle – two clutch finishes that gave them a boost up the NHRA Mello Yello Series point standings.
After being the quickest car in the quarterfinals despite an engine change, the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Mustang advanced to the finals on a lucky break – opponent Tim Wilkerson red lit to foul out at the starting line, handing the win to Tasca, who smoked the tires to a 7.440-sec. lap at 93.64 mph.
Tire smoke would prove to be a problem yet again in the finals. Matt Hagan won the race with a 4.171 at 294.75 to Tasca’s 5.324 at 164.81.
Tasca picked up two spots in the standings with two races left to go before the top 10 drivers in each professional category advance to the Countdown to the Championship playoffs, with the remaining left as spoilers.
“It was a great weekend for our team,” Tasca said. “Our backs were against the wall Saturday night, not qualified in the last session, and I’ve always said to be a champion, you’ve got to rise to the occasion. When your back’s against the wall, you have to perform under pressure.
“I’m just so proud of my guys. They worked so hard. We blew three motors this weekend. We had three motor changes today to get to the final round. We went out there to win the race and that was the bottom line. We set it up to run a 4.10. We did that in the second round. Had the same track temperature (in the finals), the track just didn’t act the same. It was on its way to a 4.10 when it smoked the tires. I pedaled the car and rolled back in hoping Matt was going to run into trouble, but they made a great run over there. Hat’s off to them.
“We came here with a mission, to move into the top 10 and stay there, and we needed a big weekend. It couldn’t have come at a better time. We just need to keep stepping up to the plate and our day in the winner’s circle will come.”
Tasca runnered-up in Denver, the first stop of the Swing, to Cruz Pedregon.
The NHRA Mello Yello Series now heads to Brainerd, Minn. Aug. 15-18, 2013.

Now headquartered near Charlotte in Concord, N.C., Tasca Racing was founded by legendary Ford dealer Bob Tasca Sr. in Rhode Island in 1962, after he realized the incredible potential of “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday” during drag racing’s infancy. At 16 years old, Bob Sr. started his first job at a Ford dealership. He opened his own Ford dealership at 27. Seventy years later Tasca Ford still exists, run by the second and third generations of the Tasca family. Bob Tasca III, grandson of Bob Sr., has led the racing branch of the family since 2008 as driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car. When he’s not involved with his race team, Bob III works at the family dealership. The Tasca family is proud to say more than 50 years after Tasca Racing was founded, the phrase “Win on Sunday Sell on Monday” is alive and well within the Tasca and Ford team.
