Tasca, Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team Log Best Qualifying Effort of Season at p5, Take on Jeff Arend in Round 1 at Englishtown

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J., June 1, 2013—When the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car team packed up in Topeka after a consistent weekend on the track, driver Bob Tasca told them to leave the car alone for Englishtown.

“Don’t even wash it,” he said.

Looks like the plan yielded what it needed to, even though they did shine up the Motorcraft red and white carbon fiber body. Tasca turned in his best qualifying effort of the year, p5, with a 4.099-second pass at 309.42 mph at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

He faces p12 Jeff Arend (4.159, 296.83) in Round 1 Sunday.

“We wanted to pick up where we left off in Topeka, and we did just that,” said Tasca, who made three clean laps out of four on the hot racetrack. “The car came out and ran three out of four really strong runs. What we’re most happy about is that the car’s responding. We make a change and we expect it to do something, and what we expect it to do, it does.

“The consistency of the car is as good as we’ve had all year and we’ve put ourselves in the position with lane choice going in to Sunday, which is always a priority, and we’ve struggled to do that this season. This is our best qualifying effort in the number five spot, and we’re going to go out Sunday and win one round at a time.”

The Motorcraft/Quick Lane team clocked a 4.198 and 4.268 in qualifying along with their 4.099 for a three-out-of-four weekend in tricky conditions that gave them plenty of data for the long, hot summer.

“The team’s on cloud nine,” Tasca said. “To have a race car that’s repeating as well as ours is, going into Sunday with a lot of good runs under our belt on a hot racetrack, knowing tomorrow is going to be hot, and having lane choice in that first round. We’ve accomplished what we needed to accomplish on Friday and Saturday, so now we need to put ourselves in the position to win on Sunday.”

ESPN2’s race broadcast is scheduled from 4:30-7 p.m. ET Sunday.

Tasca Racing
Now headquartered near Charlotte in Concord, N.C., Tasca Racing was founded by legendary Ford dealer Bob Tasca Sr. in Rhode Island in 1962, after he realized the incredible potential of “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday” during drag racing’s infancy. At 16 years old, Bob Sr. started his first job at a Ford dealership. He opened his own Ford dealership at 27. Seventy years later Tasca Ford still exists, run by the second and third generations of the Tasca family. Bob Tasca III, grandson of Bob Sr., has led the racing branch of the family since 2008 as driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car. When he’s not involved with his race team, Bob III works at the family dealership. The Tasca family is proud to say more than 50 years after Tasca Racing was founded, the phrase “Win on Sunday Sell on Monday” is alive and well within the Tasca and Ford team.
