Tasca Misses the Cut for NHRA Mello Yello Series Countdown to the Championship Playoffs by Narrowest of Margins at U.S. Nationals in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 2, 2013—Bob Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Funny Car team were as high as p1 in qualifying at the U.S. Nationals near Indianapolis, but they missed making the NHRA’s playoffs by the narrowest of margins and will finish out the season as spoilers.

Number nine in the NHRA Mello Yello Series points entering the race, the team’s fate was ultimately sealed after losing in the first round to Tim Wilkerson, then watching John Force lose to Del Worsham in Round 2. With that ticket to the semifinals Worsham moved around Tasca in points and claimed the final spot in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs.

From a points standpoint, it was an unfortunate replay of 2012’s Indianapolis race for Tasca, whose Mustang suffered a mechanical failure in the first round that nearly sent his Mustang sideways at the finish line. Tasca muscled the Mustang down the remainder of the track to a 4.505-second finish at 199.23 mph, saving it from body damage. Wilkerson advanced on a 4.028 at 315.86.

“We just had one of those weekends where absolutely nothing went our way,” said Tasca, who qualified p4 with a 4.046-second pass at 313.88 mph. “I can’t tell you how much we wanted to get this Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford into the Countdown. It just wasn’t meant to be. Getting to the winner’s circle is a goal that won’t change, though. Now we’ll focus on that.”

The NHRA Mello Yello Series heads to Charlotte Sept. 13-15, 2013.

Tasca Racing
Now headquartered near Charlotte in Concord, N.C., Tasca Racing was founded by legendary Ford dealer Bob Tasca Sr. in Rhode Island in 1962, after he realized the incredible potential of “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday” during drag racing’s infancy. At 16 years old, Bob Sr. started his first job at a Ford dealership. He opened his own Ford dealership at 27. Seventy years later Tasca Ford still exists, run by the second and third generations of the Tasca family. Bob Tasca III, grandson of Bob Sr., has led the racing branch of the family since 2008 as driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car. When he’s not involved with his race team, Bob III works at the family dealership. The Tasca family is proud to say more than 50 years after Tasca Racing was founded, the phrase “Win on Sunday Sell on Monday” is alive and well within the Tasca team.
