Tasca Knocks Off John Force in 1st Round in Topeka; Set Up Changes Begin to Show Results

DEARBORN, Mich, May 25, 2014 — Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car team now have something to build on following a first-round victory over defending champion John Force at the 26th Annual NHRA Kansas Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka.

Tasca’s first-round pass of 4.147 seconds/307.23 mph bested Force’s 5.526/135.32 to give the Rhode Island native his first elimination win since Gainesville.

“It was a good day for us with a big win against John,” Tasca said after losing a close, side-by-side second-round match up against Ron Capps.

In that round-two run, Tasca had a small advantage off the line and was in front until about the half way point where Capps went past, posting a 4.141/310.05 to Tasca’s 4.172/303.91.

“In the second round Capps made a great run but our car made a great run and went down the track,” Tasca said. “We didn’t hurt any parts. We wish we’d gone a few more rounds but this weekend was just what we needed. At this point, I’ll take it. Today we made two beautiful, picture-perfect runs and we have something to work with.”

On Friday, things weren’t looking quite as positive for Team Tasca. He shook the tires in the first qualifying session and limped to a 7.717/82.42 run that put him in the 14th position. The second Friday session was washed out by rain and the team had to wait until Saturday to try again.

After even more rain on Saturday, Tasca ran a solid 4.157/303.50, but the Heartland Park Topeka track was surrendering quick run after quick run and he found himself in 15th, but in the show. He followed that up with a 4.324/225.48 pass, during which the No. 5 piston burned up resulting in a lost engine. In the end, Tasca held onto 15th place and an appointment with Force in round 1.

“I really feel good about the changes we’ve made,” Tasca said. “A lot of the stuff we’ve been working on is coming together for us.”

The next stop for the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series is the NHRA Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway in Englishtown, NJ, May 29-June 1.

“We’re going to a track where I’ve won twice,” Tasca said. “I love racing at Englishtown. For whatever reason, we always seem to have a little magic there. With a little momentum and a little magic, who knows, maybe we could win there again.”

Tasca Racing

Now headquartered near Charlotte in Concord, N.C., Tasca Racing was founded by Legendary Ford dealer Bob Tasca, Sr., in Rhode Island in 1962, after he realized the incredible potential of “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday” during drag racing’s infancy. At 16 years old, Bob Sr. started his first job at a Ford dealership. He opened his own Ford dealership at 27. Seventy years later, Tasca Ford still exists, run by the second and third generations of the Tasca family. Bob Tasca III, grandson of Bob Sr., has led the racing branch of the family since 2008 as driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car. When he’s not involved with his race team, Bob III works at the family dealership. The Tasca family is proud to say more than 50 years after Tasca Racing was founded, the phrase “Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday” is alive and well within the Tasca team.
