Tasca Optimistic 2013 Changes, Top 10 Speeds at Test Will Lead to Success in Seventh NHRA Mello Yello Season

DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 5, 2014—Bob Tasca III is confident that last year’s mid-season clutch and setup changes and top 10 runs in the pre-season test last month in Palm Beach, Fla., will equate to a strong, maybe even championship-caliber, showing in his seventh season on the NHRA Mello Yello Funny Car circuit. The green light goes on this weekend at the Circle K NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, Calif.

The owner/driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Mustang said he wasn’t happy with his car’s performance in the early part of 2013, which led to changing his clutch manufacturer and going to a different set up for first Las Vegas race.

“It took us a little while to put all the pieces together and it really all came together for us in Chicago when we were the first Ford in the threes with a 3.988 and only the third car to do that in Funny Car history,” Tasca said. “We really hit our stride on the West Coast swing and were the No. 1 point-getter during that part of the schedule, reaching the finals in Denver and Seattle.”

Tasca admits that later in the season things didn’t go his team’s way and that, along with the time it took to adapt to the changes, kept him out of the Countdown to the Championship playoffs. Not being in the title chase, however, afforded Team Tasca the luxury of real-world experimentation that allowed him to take the car off the truck at pre-season testing and post two top 10 times.

The Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Mustang ran a 4.067-second lap with a top speed of 320.51 mph on the first day of testing, seventh fastest, and 4.084 and 314.39 on the final day, sixth fastest.

“It was the best opening test session we’ve ever had,” Tasca said. “Most of what we wanted to test worked as planned. We’re looking forward to building on that momentum in Pomona. I’m excited about the prospects for the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Mustang Funny Car this season. Our goal is to win the championship.”

Seventy years later Tasca Ford still exists, run by the second and third generations of the Tasca family. Tasca, Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team End Up-and-Down Year with Pedalfest

POMONA, Calif., Nov. 10, 2013—Bob Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car team capped off an up-and-down year with a spectacular pedalfest in the second round of the Auto Club NHRA Finals.

Tasca’s opponent Cruz Pedregon smoked the tires first, but soon both cars were struggling down the track. Ultimately Pedregon crossed the finish line first with a 5.207-second lap at 267.43 mph to Tasca’s 5.626 at 242.93. Tasca advanced to the quarterfinals with a win over Courtney Force in the first round, where Tasca drove to a 4.108 at 309.56 to Force’s 4.260 at 256.50.

“It’s not the end of the season we wanted,” Tasca said. “There were a lot of highs and a lot of lows, and that’s just racing. The bottom line is it’s always good to see a season come to an end and give yourself the opportunity to reflect on changes you made and things we need to work on in the off-season. I had some real highlights with that 3.98 and a couple of final rounds (in Denver and Seattle) and semifinals (Pomona 1 and Chicago).

“We just didn’t achieve what we wanted to achieve. We’ve got to dig deep in this off-season and come out swinging in testing in Palm Beach in January, roll out here for the Winternationals and start the 2014 season off on the right foot. That’s ultimately the goal, to come out and win a national championship for Ford and for Motorcraft and Quick Lane. We did a lot of work this season and ultimately hard work will pay off.”

Tasca Advances to Semifinals at NHRA Season-opener at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona

POMONA, Calif., Feb. 17, 2013—If you don’t red light sometimes, you’re not trying, Bob Tasca said, and it was Tasca’s turn on Sunday at the 53rd annual O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.

After qualifying p13 with a 4.190-second pass at 305.08 mph, the early rounds fell Tasca’s way, with wins against Del Worsham in Round 1 and Cruz Pedregon in Round 2. By the time he met Ford teammate Courtney Force in the semifinals, though, Tasca’s luck had run out.

He fouled out at the starting line by just .086 of a second, then drove to what would have been a winning 4.142 at 311.34 as Force’s Mustang shook the tires.

“That was a heartbreaker,” Tasca said. “It was 100 percent me. I took a shot at the tree and went red, and that was the ballgame. But we made a full pull. We got a lot of good data to look at. As a driver, that’s the last thing you want to do, give it away, but at the end of the day, you have to get up for the fight, and if you don’t go red once and a while, you’re not trying.

“I hate to let the guys down. Motorcraft, Quick Lane, FordParts.com…their support is unbelievable. They worked so hard in the off-season. We’ll pick the pieces up and go to Phoenix. We got some big wins here (in Pomona). We’ll shake it off and look forward, not back.”

The NHRA Mello Yello Series heads to Firebird International Raceway near Phoenix next weekend for the second of 24 races in the 2013 season.

Tasca Draws Del Worsham as First Opponent for 2013; Qualifies p13 at NHRA Winternationals

POMONA, Calif., Feb. 16, 2013—Bob Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team qualified p13 with a 4.190-second pass at 305.08 mph at the 53rd O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.

Tasca faces Del Worsham, a driver-turned-crew-chief who returned to the driver’s seat this year, in Round 1.

While all three days of qualifying featured 80-degree Southern California weather, Sunday’s temperatures are expected to be cooler.

“We’ve tested all winter on 80, 85-degree racetracks in Palm Beach (Fla.),” said Tasca, a Ford dealer who is starting his sixth year as a fulltime driver on the NHRA Funny Car circuit. “I’m not discouraged at all. The runs we smoked the tires on were very close to making it, so it’s just a matter of getting the timing curve to work on the clutch set-up we have. Tomorrow morning’s a whole new ballgame. A 70-degree day. The racetrack will be 85-degrees – something we’re very familiar with, based on what we’ve tested all winter.

“We wanted more on that last run. We really backed it down to make it go, and it didn’t go. This thing is hopped up. It’s tuned up to run big speeds and that’s our mentality this year, but clearly we’ve got some fine-tuning to do on a warmer race track. We’ll make the appropriate changes as we get more opportunity to run. I’m looking forward to running Del in the morning.”

Tasca arrived in Pomona fresh off of 48 hours of plowing snow out of his family’s dealership, Tasca Ford in Cranston, R.I. The area received 27 inches of snow in snowstorm Nemo, an epic storm that struck New England last week.

Two hours of qualifying air on ESPN2 at 10 p.m. ET today (Feb. 16, 2013), with eliminations from 8-11 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Blizzard Can’t Stop Tasca from Starting Sixth NHRA Mello Yello Season at O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals

DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 13, 2013—Bob Tasca III couldn’t be more ready to start his sixth season on the NHRA Mello Yello Funny Car tour. After 48 solid hours of plowing snow out of his family’s Ford dealership in Cranston, R.I. – where 27 inches of snow completely buried the rows of Fords, making them look more like ski moguls – Tasca is ecstatic to trade his snow boots and tractor for the palm trees of Southern California and his Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car.

Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team come to the 53rd annual O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals armed with data from testing in both December and January in Palm Beach, Fla. They’ll start this season ahead of the game, exactly where they hoped to be.

“I’m happy to see something other than snow,” said Tasca, who cleared the snow with two others. “Let me tell you, I’ve been thinking about the first qualifying session at the Winternationals since the Finals in November. At the end of the day, when you’re a driver, the only thing you really want to do is get back in your race car. I was happy to get some seat time over the winter and am glad to be back in Pomona. I have a lot of confidence in this Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang and my guys. We’re ready to go.”

Despite the time spent on the track this winter, Tasca fit in plenty of family time during the break, including a trip to Orlando, Fla. with his wife and four sons.

Two hours of qualifying air on ESPN2 at 10 p.m. ET on Saturday, with eliminations from 8-11 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Tasca Ready for One Last Swing Before 2013; Winter Test Sessions to Follow for Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team

POMONA, Calif., Nov. 7, 2012–The 2012 NHRA Full Throttle Series concludes with the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona Nov. 8-11, 2012, and Bob Tasca III is ready to take one last swing before the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car team formally kicks off 2013.

“For us, it’s about ending on a high note,” Tasca said. “We haven’t had the season we wanted. We’ve had high points along the way, but not enough of them. The best way to end a season, though, is to win. That gives you some momentum heading into the winter test schedule. It puts you in the right mindset.”

The Motorcraft/Quick Lane team tested at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway after the race there and walked away happy with the results.

“We’re well on our way to getting ready for next year,” Tasca said. “We’ve had a lot of things planned and we’ll test twice between now and the 2013 Winternationals. We’ll be ready to race.”

TIME FOR 2012 FOR BOB TASCA III, MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE AND FORDPARTS.COM FUNNY CAR TEAM

POMONA, Calif., Nov. 13, 2011 – It’s not surprising that Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane and FordParts.com Ford Mustang Funny Car team immediately turned their collective focus to 2012 before the 2011 NHRA Full Throttle Series Championship trophy had even been awarded at the Auto Club Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.

Already out of contention going in to the race, they were prepared to bring their best game against opponents challenging “One Ford” teammates Mike Neff and Robert Hight for the title.

But after a heartbreaking loss in Round 1 against Cruz Pedregon, despite turning in a solid 4.199 at 308.07 behind Tasca’s .008-second advantage on the starting line, they turned to the next thing on the calendar – a full schedule of testing and work in the shop that will prepare them for the NHRA Winternationals at the same track in February. It’s to be expected from the deeply driven driver and his crew.

“Unfortunately the day didn’t play out the way that we had hoped,” Tasca said. “You go out in the first round and it was a real close race against Cruz, and truthfully we would’ve beat a lot of other cars out there in the first round (seven out of the 16 drivers). But it’s the luck of the draw and we came up on the short end.”

TASCA RETURNS TO POMOMA ONE YEAR AFTER CLEARING WAY FOR MIRACULOUS 15th FORCE CHAMPIONSHIP WIN

POMONA, Calif., Nov. 9, 2011 – One year ago, Bob Tasca III stepped up with what will always be remembered as one of the greatest passes of his career.

Around him, a battle was raging for the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Championship title and another Ford Mustang driver, none other than 14-time champion John Force, was in trouble. Like so many times in his life, Force was the underdog, looking for a way to put a lot of bad luck behind him. He needed a point man – a blocker who could clear the path to his unbelievable 15th-career championship.

In the way was Don Schumacher Racing pilot Matt Hagan, a fresh-faced farmer from Virginia who seemed to have luck and a healthy dose of momentum on his side. Hagan, seeking his first world championship title, had certainly done the work to get himself there. But there was one driver who could swing the door for Force wide open.

That was none other than Bob Tasca III, in the driver’s seat of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane and FordParts.com Ford Mustang.

TASCA AND MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE FORD SHELBY MUSTANG TEAM FACE TRICKY GREMLINS, EXIT AFTER FIRST ROUND AT NHRA SEASON-OPENER

POMONA, Calif. – Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang team recorded their fastest speed of the weekend – 303.37 mph – during the first round of eliminations at the 51st annual NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, but it wasn’t enough to hold back ‘One Ford’ teammate Robert Hight.

Tasca drove the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford to a 4.216-second finish to Hight’s 4.121 at 305.84 for an early exit. Hight faced teammate John Force in Round 2.

“We’ll pack our stuff up and go back to the drawing board,” said Tasca, who qualified 13th with a 4.147 at 286.74 after three days of incredible shifts in weather. “It’s not an outcome that is even close to what we hoped for.”
