Tasca Runners-up at Mile-High NHRA Nationals, Retains 10th spot in the NHRA Mello Yello Series Countdown to the Championship Points

DENVER, July 21, 2013—Bob Tasca earned a hard-fought runner-up finish at the Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway, battling through three Ford-Ford match-ups to reach the finals.

Tasca muscled the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car to a 4.408-second finish at 257.04 mph after the car lost traction and lurched left off the starting line. Opponent Cruz Pedregon drove away with the win on a 4.233 at 295.46.

With only a few rounds between drivers in the NHRA Mello Yello Series point standings and four races left to go before the top 10 advance to the playoffs, there’s plenty of time for teams to make big moves in the Countdown to the Championship standings before the cut.

“It just proves it, on a weekend like this, we’re playing hardball out there,” said Tasca, who leaves with the 10th-place position he nabbed in Norwalk, Ohio. “The points are so close and you have great cars close to the cut. We were going rounds, but everybody ahead of us was going rounds too. It was one of those weekends where you couldn’t blink.”

Tasca qualified p11 (4.171, 304.74) – a number that lined him up against three Ford teams. He defeated John Force, Tim Wilkerson and Robert Hight to make it to the finals.

“We went rounds after struggling in qualifying, like we did in Norwalk,” Tasca said. “That’s a trend we’ll hopefully break in Sonoma. It proves the confidence this team has that once Sunday comes along, we know what we have to do to fix it. We performed well today. I’m very proud of my guys.

“We’re poised to make a real run, to move way up the ladder these next couple of races. That’s what our goal is.”

The NHRA Mello Yello Series heads to California wine country this week for the second stop in the three-race Western Swing that begins in Denver and ends in Seattle.

Tasca Racing
Now headquartered near Charlotte in Concord, N.C., Tasca Racing was founded by legendary Ford dealer Bob Tasca Sr. in Rhode Island in 1962, after he realized the incredible potential of “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday” during drag racing’s infancy. At 16 years old, Bob Sr. started his first job at a Ford dealership. He opened his own Ford dealership at 27. Seventy years later Tasca Ford still exists, run by the second and third generations of the Tasca family. Bob Tasca III, grandson of Bob Sr., has led the racing branch of the family since 2008 as driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car. When he’s not involved with his race team, Bob III works at the family dealership. The Tasca family is proud to say more than 50 years after Tasca Racing was founded, the phrase “Win on Sunday Sell on Monday” is alive and well within the Tasca and Ford team.

Tasca, Motorcraft/Quick Lane Funny Car Team Welcome Short Break After Loss in Denver

DENVER, July 22, 2012–When it comes to prep time after a tough loss, less is more for NHRA Full Throttle Series Funny Car drivers like Bob Tasca III and their teams.

The Motorcraft/Quick Lane camp is more than happy to go straight from Denver to Sonoma, Calif. this weekend for the second stop on the three-races-in-three-weeks Western Swing.

Tasca narrowly lost in the first round to Cruz Pedregon, who cut a .059 light on the starting line to Tasca’s .074 for a holeshot win. Pedregon crossed the stripe in 4.261 seconds at 290.26 mph to Tasca’s 4.258 at 293.98.

“Hats off to my guys,” Tasca said. “They made a great call (in Round 1). We struggled a little bit this weekend. We had a fuel pump issue on Friday and had a lot of tire smoke Saturday, but they made a great call today. Cruz’ guys made a great call as well. He probably ran low E.T. of the session when you adjust for where he staged. Off to Sonoma. I love the fact that these races are back-to-back-to-back because I have a lot of confidence in this team and know that if we keep stepping up to the plate, we’re going to hit some home runs. Hopefully in the near future.”

Tasca Qualifies 13th, Faces Cruz Pedregon in Round 1 at Bandimere Speedway’s Mile-High Nationals

DENVER, July 21, 2012–It’s lucky No. 13 for Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car team, who drew Cruz Pedregon as a round-one opponent at Bandimere Speedway with their 4.386-second pass at 275.28 mph in qualifying.

Like Tasca, Cruz is embroiled in the every-point-counts mid-pack fight for NHRA Full Throttle Series point positions with the cutoff for the Countdown to the Championship playoffs rapidly approaching.

After tomorrow, four more races remain for drivers to crack the top 10 in points and therefore keep their 2012 championship title hopes alive.

Tasca rebounded from fuel line issues Friday with two decent passes under in the heat on Saturday.

“This race track throws the crew chiefs for a loop,” Tasca said. “It’s a completely different set-up then we run anywhere else in the country. On Friday we struggled with a fuel pump issue that we finally figured out after qualifying. We’re going to need to bring our A-Game. We’ve got a tough competitor with Cruz Pedregon. It’ll be a monster match-up in round one, but this Motorcraft/Quick Lane team will be ready.”

Tasca Eyes Points as Fight for Playoff Berths Heats Up in time for NHRA Full Throttle Series Western Swing

DENVER, July 18, 2012–NHRA Funny Car drivers can calculate points almost faster than the four-second runs they use to earn them.

Take Bob Tasca III, for instance. Tasca, driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang, can tell you what position he’s in (No. 6 this week, moved up two spots from Norwalk) and exactly – to the number – how many points he is out of fifth place (he trails Johnny Gray by 106 points, or approximately five rounds on Sunday, not including qualifying or bonus points).

He can also tell you how many points it would take for No. 7-10 to catch him. Five races remain in the regular season before the NHRA Full Throttle Series Countdown to the Championship playoffs begin. The top 10 drivers in the points after the legendary Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis Labor Day weekend are playoff contenders, and are thus eligible to win the 2012 championship. After the “Big Go,” the points reset and drivers who don’t make it become spoilers.

TASCA, MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE FORD MUSTANG TEAM READY FOR STOP TWO OF THE WESTERN SWING

DENVER, July 24, 2011 – There are a few instances where the word “strike” signals a good thing. “Strike it rich,” for instance. Or in bowling. In NHRA Full Throttle Series Drag Racing, a strike isn’t something you want to see if it happens to your car.

Unfortunately, the bad luck that has surfaced more than once this year for the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Mustang Funny Car team stayed on its heels once again at Bandimere Speedway near Denver – and despite performing near the top of the pack in performance-per-round twice in qualifying, the red, white and blue Funny Car with the striking paint scheme struck the tires in Round 1.

Bob Tasca III, driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane entry, matched first-round opponent Ron Capps from the starting line with a .092-second reaction time to Capps’ .091. The Ford Mustang went nose-to-nose with Capps until beyond the 330-foot mark, where it lost traction and the race. Tasca clocked a 5.539-second finish at 131.96 mph to Capps’ 4.326 at 291.57.

It was a disappointing result for the team that wants anything but a short day in the “office.”

STORIED LEGACY OF FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE DIVISION BRANDS LIVES THROUGH TASCA, BAYNE

DENVER, Colo., July 21, 2011 – The desire to carry on a legacy, to make one’s chapter in a long history the best one, is a powerful motivator. Especially when the connection between the two is organic, and especially in American motorsports.

The chapter being written now for the iconic Ford Customer Service Division (FCSD) brands Motorcraft, Quick Lane and FordParts.com is in the hands of two very different drivers. One a rookie, one a legacy in the true sense of the word.

FCSD and its associated brands have raced to the winner’s circle for generations in a story that stretches back decades, to the early days of NHRA Pro Stock world champion Bob Glidden, now a crew chief, Mark Oswald and Kenny Bernstein, a team owner, and NASCAR champions Bill Elliott, Dale Jarrett and Geoff Bodine. Not including Scott Pruett, Lyn St. James, Bruce Jenner and Wally Dallenbach Jr.

Tasca and Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing Team Exit Denver in Second Round

DENVER, CO – July 25, 2010 – Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team looked forward to the challenge of Denver and had three things they wanted to accomplish to close the West Coast Swing.

Of the items on their checklist, Tasca and the team achieved two of those goals – run well in Denver and secure a spot in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series 2010 Countdown to 1. The third goal – win on the West Coast Swing ended in the second round.

Tasca continued his streak of top-eight qualifying efforts this weekend. Tasca qualified his Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang in the top half of the field for 12 of the 16 races this season. Tasca’s best Denver run of 4.240 seconds at 293.86 miles per hour would lock him in the seventh qualifying position. (more…)

Tasca and Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing Team Clinch Seventh Spot in NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Countdown to 1

DEARBORN, MI., July 24, 2010 – Three years and 63 races after Bob Tasca III began racing the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang Nitro Funny Car, he will compete for the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Funny Car Championship.

Tasca clinched the seventh spot of 10 drivers for NHRA’s 2010 Countdown to 1 after qualifying seventh for this weekend’s NHRA race in Denver.

“Congratulations to Bob and the entire Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team on securing a spot in the Countdown to 1,” said Brett Wheatley, Director of Marketing, Ford Customer Service Division. “Bob has brought the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing team to a new level this season. From making the transition to the Ford BOSS 500 engine platform, to winning in Englishtown with the FordParts.com Mustang, Bob’s performance has made all of us at Ford proud. We are looking forward to seeing Bob’s Mustang win a lot more rounds and, hopefully, the championship.”

Tasca and Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing Looking Forward to the Challenges of Denver

DEARBORN, MI – July 20, 2010 – Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team may have left Sonoma early by just a few inches, but they plan to take those inches and get at least one more round win this weekend in Denver.

Tasca and the team returned to the strong performance they exhibited earlier this season with a semifinal appearance in Somona, providing a needed boost to the team heading into this weekend’s NHRA event in Denver. Just by qualifying this weekend, Tasca will assure himself a berth in the NHRA Countdown to 1 playoffs.

“In the last two months, we’ve had one win, two semifinal appearances and two first-round losses, but those first-round losses have asterisks by them because we had some mechanical issues in those two races,” said Tasca. “We diagnosed the issue and got our stuff pulled together. We were back in the semifinals and probably one of the top cars to beat this past weekend. With what we accomplished in Sonoma, I’m very confident heading into Denver.”

TASCA AND THE MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING TEAM LEAVE DENVER IN THE SECOND ROUND

Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colorado

TASCA AND THE MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE RACING TEAM LEAVE DENVER IN THE SECOND ROUND

Morrison, CO – July 13, 2009 – Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team were confident heading into the Mile High city this weekend. Fresh off of two semi-final appearances and solid data from 2008, Tasca and the team were eager to start the West Coast Swing on a high note.

Tasca was locked into the field Saturday afternoon with a 4.27 second run at 294.05 miles per hour. Tasca’s time would place him in the 12th position for Sunday’s elimination rounds.

During first round eliminations, Tasca faced technical alliance teammate Tim Wilkerson. It was the sixth time the pair would meet. Wilkerson was quick off the line but Tasca would catch him by the 660-foot marker and win the round. Tasca would then face Jack Beckman in the second round.

Hoping to have a different result from Norwalk, Tasca was the first off the line, but Beckman was able to catch the Mustang Shelby by the 330-foot marker. Beckman defeated Tasca by 0.0773 seconds, approximately 33 feet.
