Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team Misses Semifinals in Narrow Holeshot Loss; Tasca Heads to NYC for JDRF Visit Monday

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J., June 2, 2013—Fans new to NHRA were quickly acquainted with the word “holeshot” Sunday at the NHRA Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, where the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car team was not immune.

In a holeshot win, the driver with the best car at the finish line loses the race by being slower on the starting line.

Bob Tasca narrowly missed a semifinal berth with just such a loss in Round 2. His .110-second reaction time on the starting line wasn’t enough to take out Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car teammate Tim Wilkerson, who clocked a .091 on the starting line to win with a slower 4.150-second pass to Tasca’s 4.148.

Despite his disappointment at the loss, Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team were happy about the car’s performance.

“The car did everything we asked it to do,” Tasca said. “It was a really close drag race. Certainly our car was right there with him. We’ll move on to Bristol. We can’t be too upset. Ten out of 11 runs down the track now, we’ve made full pulls. We’ve certainly turned the corner with our program.”

On Monday, Tasca will visit employees at JDRF Headquarters in New York, New York, where he’ll receive a briefing on the latest in T1D research, and meet and sign autographs for employees.

Tasca and Motorcraft/Quick Lane Racing has raised more than $50,000 in the 2013 “Our Everyday Heroes” Race Car Design Contest for JDRF, a fundraiser Ford Customer Service Division has held with Tasca or Wood Brothers Racing since 2008.

“It’s going to be great,” Tasca said. “I haven’t been to their headquarters, and it’s an organization that’s been a big part of our program throughout the years. I’ve gotten to meet a lot of people throughout JDRF and a lot of families who are affected by T1D. I’m looking forward to going to New York and meeting the people behind the organization.”

This year’s winning paint scheme will be unveiled before the NHRA race in Chicago.

Tasca Racing
Now headquartered near Charlotte in Concord, N.C., Tasca Racing was founded by legendary Ford dealer Bob Tasca Sr. in Rhode Island in 1962, after he realized the incredible potential of “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday” during drag racing’s infancy. At 16 years old, Bob Sr. started his first job at a Ford dealership. He opened his own Ford dealership at 27. Seventy years later Tasca Ford still exists, run by the second and third generations of the Tasca family. Bob Tasca III, grandson of Bob Sr., has led the racing branch of the family since 2008 as driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car. When he’s not involved with his race team, Bob III works at the family dealership. The Tasca family is proud to say more than 50 years after Tasca Racing was founded, the phrase “Win on Sunday Sell on Monday” is alive and well within the Tasca and Ford team.
