Bob Tasca, Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team Battle Dropped Cylinder in First-Round Loss to Matt Hagan at The Strip

LAS VEGAS, April 7, 2013—Bob Tasca and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car team fell prey to a dropped cylinder in a first-round loss to Matt Hagan at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Tasca clocked a 7.632-second pass at 82.66 mph after the cylinder failed at the beginning of the run, pushing the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford out of the groove. He qualified p11 with a 4.165 at 307.09.

“That was the first time we’d done that all weekend, and when you drop a cylinder you lose over 1,000 horsepower and it really throws the clutch out of whack,” Tasca said. “The car shook the tires right away. We figured it would be a great drag race and Hagan had his problems. He certainly was up for grabs with that 4.24, but our problems were bigger than his and sooner than his.”

The Motorcraft/Quick Lane team led by Chris Cunningham and Marc Denner had plenty to work on after switching blowers before the race. They’ll continue to work on the new set-up before the Dollar General NHRA 4-Wide Nationals in Charlotte, N.C. next week.

“We’ve really seen the car respond to a lot of the changes we’ve made throughout the weekend,” Tasca said. “I’m very optimistic. I’ve never been this optimistic about our race team and the direction our race team is going in.

“We have a big test session tomorrow, getting ready for Charlotte. Conditions will be cooler, similar to what we’ll probably see at the 4-Wide, and for me, we knew we had our hands full coming in to this race, with all of the changes we made. I’m very pleased with the progress we made. I obviously would’ve loved to have gone some rounds on Sunday, but the best is yet to come.”
